After the martensitic stainless steel: able to quenching, quenching has high hardness, strength and wear resistance and good oxidation resistance, some magnetic, but large internal stress and crispy. After low temperature tempering can eliminate the stress, increase the plastic, machining is difficult, have obvious trend of chip scratches or bond, the cutting tool wear easily.

When the carbon content in steel is less than 0.3%, the organization is not uniform, strong adhesion, prone to devolop tumor when cutting, and the chip breaker is difficult, the workpiece has the processing surface quality is low. When carbon content was 0.4% ~ 0.5%, cutting workability is good.

Martensite stainless steel after tempering treatment, can obtain excellent comprehensive mechanical properties, has a lot to improve its cutting workability than annealing condition.

Ferritic stainless steel: the organization stability, cooling/heating does not occur, we cannot make its strengthening heat treatment, can only rely on deformation strengthening, brittle performance, cutting processability were generally good. Chip is easy to scratch, chip strip or binding on the cutting edge, thereby increasing the cutting force, cutting temperature, at the same time may make workpiece surface tear phenomenon. Austenitic stainless steel: it contains more nickel (or mn), heating organization remains unchanged, we cannot make its reinforcement, quenching can slightly improve its processability. Through the cold hardening can significantly improve the strength, if again after aging treatment, tensile strength of up to 2550 ~ 2740 MPa.

Cutting of austenitic stainless steel continuous chip, continuous chip breaker is difficult, easy to produce work hardening, cutting hardened layer to the next great difficulty, make sharply cutting tool wear and tool life drastically.

Austenitic stainless steel has excellent mechanical properties, good corrosion resistant ability, the outstanding is cold deformation ability, non-magnetic.

Austenite ferritic stainless steel, with high hardness of intermetallic precipitation, the intensity is higher than austenitic stainless steel, the less cutting processability. Precipitation hardening stainless steel: can contain precipitation hardening of thallium, aluminum, molybdenum, titanium alloy elements, their aging precipitation during tempering, precipitation hardening, make steel has high strength and hardness. Because of the low carbon content to ensure the enough chromium content, thus has good corrosion resistance.
